Founded
in the 1997-1998 season
the original name
of the hockey club
was the Renegades.
The hockey club competed
during the first three
seasons as the Renegades.
The highlight of the
first three seasons
was a division championship
in the summer of 1998.
After
the 1999-2000 season,
the core members of
the hockey club determined
in order for the club
to improve and become
more competitive,
the team would need
to restructure the
membership of the
hockey club. It was
agreed that going
into the 2000-2001
season the hockey
club would take on
a new nickname along
with a new attitude.
In
2000 the Ironmen Hockey
Club name was born
when the founding
members agreed, that
the new name of the
hockey team should
reflect the type of
organization we are,
the character of our
membership and the
brand of hockey we
play. The founding
members of the hockey
club have recorded
consecutive game "ironman
streaks" of 221,
200 and 139 games
respectively with
the Ironmen Hockey
Club and its' former
incarnation. Defensemen
Steve Meadows' has
an active consecutive
game streak of 221
games. This is how
the name of the Ironmen
Hockey Club was selected.
During
the first year with
Ironmen name in the
2000-2001 season the
team had an excellent
playoff run and finished
as the division runner-up.
The Ironmen earned
the right to represent
their division in
the Regional Championships.
The
2001-2002 season was
highlighted with the
launch of the team
website in February
2002. In May of 2002
the Ironmen embarked
on the first out of
town tournament in
club history participating
in the Annual Whistler
Summit Series Hockey
Tournament.
In
2002-2003 after a
one-year absence the
team made it's return
to the playoffs. The
club also competed
in a higher caliber
division. In June
2003 the club made
it's second consecutive
trip to Whistler for
the Whistler Summit
Series Hockey Tournament
improving their record
from the previous
year.
After
six seasons the Ironmen
Hockey Club continues
to progress on and
off the ice. The hockey
club strives to provide
a complete and rewarding
hockey experience
for its membership.
The
last three seasons
the hockey club has
significantly improved
both the skill level
and comradery of the
team. This was achieved
by adding talented
players with character
and integrity that
believe the only way
to be successful as
a team is to put the
team first.
